Fast Times 1.1 - AMC HP I (May 30)

Wow!  Does anyone know what happened?  Tornado warnings then severe thunderstorm warnings with high winds, flash flooding and hail warnings... everyone to the storm shelter tunnel!  In the tunnel (anyone have a picture to share?), we understandably had initial frustration, doom and gloom with the delay as it is crunch time for so many. During the two hour huddle in the tunnel, something interesting transpired as tension turned to comic relief, which then turned to a group-think fighting spirit.  A little after 10 PM, the call was made and the men's 5,000 meter athletes pumped up the huddled masses in the tunnel by charging into the still falling rain to start their warm-up.  GAME ON!  In the ensuing Midnight Madness of racing, 25 athletes posted season best efforts, 13 were lifetime best marks and 9 USA National Championship qualifying marks were posted!

All volunteers and athletes/coaches did a great job and had a great attitiude working together in the spirit of this modest little series where everyone from contract athletes to aspiring first-time national qualifiers work together in sharing pace-setting duties and creating the setting for the fast times we all seek at this time of the year.

Still drying out and cleaning up in INDY... we will be ready for anything starting June 13th with AMC HP II for 2009.

Good Question RE Derek Scott's 800... first priority for this meet series is the best possible opportunity for USA qualifying marks (on occasion a race might target a World/Olympic Games "A") THEN our second priority is facilitating PR & SB races for everyone in the series. Derek was entered VERY late into this 800 and he had already been well served by the series ref the 3:39 and he had no plans to race 800 at USA's AND his best shot at running a PR 800 was to have "clean air" over the final 300. Next year if he plans a fast 800 in this series he has "earned" credits to burn on a spot in a "faster" section. GOOD LUCK to Derek next week in Eugene!

Why put Derek Scott in the slowest section of the 800m? The guy ran 339 on Friday.

Video now being loaded... 14 USA qualifying marks yesterday making 37 total USA marks for the series. Clearly the event of the day was men's 800 sections with eleven 1:48's or better!

While RS was down (?) or not accessible to us for up-loading video this AM we (OK, super intern Kyle) invested a little extra time advancing our edit skill set with video... edits are completed and video of races should start posting by 3:30 PM EDT today.

Here we go... 3 race dates in 8 days. We are hopeful that a streak can be broken during this week... maybe even a new dry streak could be started (we have seen a storm delay at every meet we have attended and hosted outdoors this year)? All the best to every participant as we look to wrap up another batch of Season's Bests and Personal Records not to mention acquiring the desired USA National Qualifying marks. Fast times and "tickets" to Eugene are waiting on the INDY Mondo.

We are back to finishing the video up-loads. We hope to successfully finish posting the remaining races today.

Additionally, access to all saved official results is being coordinated with the venue and timing crew personnel to reacquire the results unfortunately missing from the web posts at the moment... the severe storm and late hour resulted in unplanned hurried exits... we'll be 100% very soon with posted results.

About Event

The American Milers Club is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, the support of America's middle distance and distance athletes, and the development of future elite middle distance and distance athletes. The 2010 High Performance Series is produced and managed by NFTL, Inc. and hosted by the Indiana Invaders a USA Track & Field Elite Development Club.

The fall date will target 10,000 for men and women. A winter session will focus on 800, 1500 & 3000 while the summer session competition schedule will focus on the 800, 1500 and 3000S. The prospects of early spring 5,000 & 10,000 dates are currently being explored.  If you are interested in additional events being contested, please contact the Meet Director, Greg Harger, with an e-mail.

*Note: With the final day for 2010 USA Outdoor Nationals qualification determined by USATF the summer session dates will be finalized. As in the past we will plan to hold the final date of competition with a day to roll over in the event that unexpected weather conditions exist, which would preclude high performance efforts.
