Who I Am...

austinI Began running when I was 12. I fought being a distance runner from the gun!  After 4 years of cross country under Jerry Marshall, and 4 years of track under Bob Dagenhardt both at Marlington High School, I wanted to be a miler!  After 4 years of the mile and steeplechase under Coach Scott Jones at the University of Akron, I began running Under Matt Woods.  Matt is a great exercise Physiologist, and he told me my worst fear...I would never be a miler.  With a lot of struggle Matt convinced me to run a 10k, and a 1/2 marathon.  I found my nitch in the 1/2, and began training for my first marathon (again with a lot of struggle).  I ran too fast, and too hard and ended up hurt 2 weeks prior to the event.  I thought things through, and realized I would be moving soon, and needed to find the coach I would be under for many years.  I began training under my loving boyfriend (now fiance), Josh Ordway in Novemeber 2007.  I ran my first marathon in feb 2008.  Running 2:43:43 on the hilly Austin course in perfect conditions, I qualified to my first Olympic Trials.  I only had 8 weeks to get ready to run that race, and ended up injured a week out. I was able to run the race in 2:53:38.  Far from what I had hoped.  But one step at a time!  I am currently training for the Twin Cities Marathon, and hope to have a good fall ahead!

4:50 is actually an AWESOME time for any high school to college female.  The world record for females is 4:12.  So if you hit the 200's and 400's on the track for speed work, you could maybe get down around the 4:30's or so in a year.

Aw COME ON!  You shouldn't listen to some lousy coach who isn't willing to believe in you!  ANYBODY can run the mile if they know how to properly run it.

how do i get there from here

Well the decision has been made, and as long as the race directors are ok with it, I will be toeing the start line October 5th as planned.  Only not for the 10 mile as i had previously planned, but for a race I once again swore id never run.  a fall 2008 marathon.  It should be a great race, and I want to be part of it. The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. so many miles full of day dreams now lie before me.

After the Olympic Trials i was determined not to run another marathon until 2009.  Now that I am healthy and enjoying the process again, I want to give sub 2:40 another shot.  As I headed out the door this morning, I felt a sense of comfort in the decision, and felt eager to train with such vigor once again.

Ive been putting in the miles, but for a long time (until the first week of july), I was doing it because that is what I do, not because I was loving it.  Fortunatley i knew that one day i would love it again, and when that day came i would be somewhat in shape! haha.  From here it is a fine line that must be run, with passion, dedication, and awe inspired fear.  26.2 miles will always be stronger than I will be, it deserves respect, and without it we are left bruised and broken.  laying my heart out at the mercy of the roads once again, I beg the question with every step, how do i get there from here?
