Splits & Comments: 2009 Outdoor Coach's Comments - AMC, June 13

Results American Milers Club HP Series, June 13 (link)

Juan Carrillo - PR

SPLITS: 12.9, 12.9(25.8), 13.6, 13.5(27.1/52.9), 13.8,
13.8(27.6/1:20.5) 14.0, 14.3(28.3/55.9) Official Time: 1:49.08

NOTES: On a day where concern over a little flare-up tendonitis
had you distracted from full attention to the race setting you still
managed a solid step forward in your PR at 800 meters. The
tendonitis must be managed mentally on the next outing this
coming Wednesday night to free yourself for an opportunity to
get under 1:49. Your fitness is such that another good step
forward at 800m is waiting for you in your last 800 of this
personally short season. 1500 PR waits for you on Saturday!

Adrian Myers - PR

SPLITS: 12.7, 12.9(25.6), 13.8, 13.7(27.5/53.1), 13.9,
13.8(27.7/1:20.8), 14.1, 14.6 (28.7/56.4)
Official Time: 1:49.78

NOTES: Applying the race plan to be more aggressive on the
track early with respect to positioning paid off in progress
representing your fitness. There is more there this season.
In particular from this race 450 to 650 has room for more
productive aggression (attacking the race). With our
"strength" emphasis in this first training cycle a fast 1000 to
1200 as the 1500 rabbit this Wednesday should play well
in setting you up to make a run at the 1:48's on the 20th.

Austin Wechter - #4 All-Time 400H (& rabbit duties at 800m)

SPLITS: 6.35, 4.19, 4.37, 4.41, 4.50,
4.36, 4.43, 4.56, 4.72, 5.08, 5.29
Official Time: 52.43

NOTES: First class approach to the challenge of no competitors.
Again (how many times this outdoor season... every meet??)
solid management of weather interference with the rains and
the possibility of a race delay. If you retain the weather lessons
from the season you will have a big competitive advantage in
the future when adverse weather hits. We know that you will
likely have little or no help in the next two meets BUT, you are
ready for a break through based on the consistency in the 52's.
BIG Team Points for setting up a teammate in the 800!

Ricky Bell - season opener

SPLITS: 12.9, 13.4(26.3), 14.2, 14.2(28.4/54.6), 14.6,
13.9 (28.5/1;23.1), 13.8, 14.5 (28.3/56.8)
Official Time: 1:51.63

NOTES: It has been a long road back from surgery and you have
exceeded all reasonable goals for this first training cycle...
remember the goal for 2009 was #1 the health and fitness to
start a full national level training cycle this coming August AND
#2 to break 1:54 during June this year. "Mission Accomplished"!
You have two more outings and nothing to lose so let's be more
aggressive with the next race to avoid the box-in situation which
cost you half a second. You could scare up something under 1:50
just as easily your lack of a true 800m base could crash in on you.
As we are able to return to normal training keeping the good
communication you have exhibited during challenging times and
your odds of returning to national finals and the Trials go way up!

Christopher Hendrix-Buxton - SB

SPLITS: 13.4, 13.2(26.6), 14.3, 14.0(28.3/54.9), 14.5,
14.0 (28.5/1;23.4), 14.0, 15.2 (29.2/57.7)
Official Time: 1:52.82

NOTES: having to shut things down with the injury may
prove to be a bit of a blessing over the rest of the week.
Keep your head clear and do not let the injury become
an excuse as you can race as evidenced by Saturday's
outing. Race the last 600m with a smooth effort and
you have a shot at a PR.

MASON CATHEY - rabbit 800 & 1500

SPLITS (800): 14.1, 13.9 (28.0), 15.1, 15.6 (30.7/58.7)
16.2 (1:14.9)

SPLITS (1500): 15.1, 17.0 (32.1), 17.5, 16.8 (34.3/66.4)
17.6, 18.2 (35.8), 17.8, 17.4 (35.2/71.0/2:17.4)
17.3, 17.5 (34.8/2:52.2)

NOTES: Excellent blend of giving something to the meet
when you had attained your "A" standard and also dropping
in a solid quality workout to kick of "sharpening week". You
are ready for both an 800 and 1500 PR in the next couple
of meets to finish out final race preparation going in to USA
Nationals in 10 days.
