Who I Am...

This catch phrase is from my favorite movie "Fifth Element," a science fiction thriller starring Bruce Willis.

I love to run and swim.  I am a masters swimmer and the President of our swim club at the American Renaissance Academy (ARA), located in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii.

Aloha my running brothers and sisters!

Blackout ALl Over Hawaiian Island!

According to KHNL News 8, in Honolulu, Hawaii:  Last night, Friday, December 26, 2008, an island wide electrical power outage has hit the island of Oahu.  A spokesperson for Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) and Honolulu mayor Mufi Hannemann estimated that consumer electricity would be out for at least 12-hours for most of the island of Oahu.

At 6:30 p.m. last night, an electrical storm caused an interruption in electrical power which shut down all but one of HECO's power generating stations.  Early reports indicated that only two neighbor hoods on the entire island were spared from the blackout.  HECO later reported that the entire island was without electrical power.

Early reports indicated that many people were stranded in elevators in Waikiki.

Police asked residents to use 911 service for emergencies only...to avoid travel only as a necessity and to treat all intersections as a four way stop.

Water supply officials urged all residents to conserve water.

Hospitals operated under emergency power.

It was a repeat of the earthquake we had here.  My daughter had a friend sleeping over and thank goodness for the earthquake because we were well prepared for any further blackout.  With lots of candles and self charging flashlights, we made it through the night.

Power was restored to our neighborhood at 3:20 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008.

It was great fun!

Did you run in the Honolulu Marathon a few weeks ago or anything else coming up?
