Quotes"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." | Who I Am...

Race for the Cure
After a week of nightmares chock-full-of-self-doubt and cryptic Freudian denotations I finally finished my first 5k in 365 days...alive! The Race for the Cure in Rome had 40,000 participants this year and I spent at least as many seconds dreading it!! I finally met the rest of my team (they are brilliant) about 30 minutes before and having other women to warm up with helped me push through the anxiety to make it to a very crowded starting line. It's as almost as though the starting gun pierced a hole in the firmament because it poured down with rain immediately after the start and didn't stop until I rounded out the Colosseum at about 3k mark. As an Oregonian (proud) I can say that I was perhaps the only one who wasn't bothered. Besides the heavy breather that accompanied me for the race in it's entirety (he was my worst nightmare), and wet slippery cobblestones, all was well and I finished 13th with my slowest time ever of about 20 minutes and 10 seconds or so (I am still looking for the final race results); my teammates finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 8th. So after this race I have learned that: 1. It's not where you are but where you are going that matters.

Oh, e potresti mandare il video di Jeff? La mia squadra di Columbia devono vedere come buon ballerino lui è. Come va in Roma? Andrei al Steens la questa estate? Prendersela con calma!

The season is going well....it is weird that it is quickly approaching crunch time now. Coaching is really difficult, but I think I have prepared them all to do their best. We continue to get pr's as the season goes along...so I hope I'm doing things right. That's pretty exciting that you're going to have the squad there for a week or so. That will be a blast. I wish you were coming to Steens again this year....but I understand it is a long ways to travel. How is your running going? I don't see any training logs anymore.

There have been times running trails here that my legs stop working and tears flow when faced with a view that absolutely and literally takes your breath away. I see that Melody Fairchild has been an inspiration to you - small world. She is also an inspiration to me too! We are working together on high school girl and adult running camps here in Estes Park, Colorado - see my website for more. She is an amazing athlete and still an inspirational woman with loads more to come for the world! Happy running!
