Who I Am...

I've been a runner since I was 14. I was the only girl in my middle school gym class to finish the 1 mile Presidential Challenge. At 14 the 4 white painted laps around the school yard (I'm a city girl) were insurmountable to all my young classmates except for me.  I finished the mile - standing- ready for more and realized that in a time when all you want to do is fit in with your friends that I might have found something I was good at.

My P.E. Teacher promptly directed me toward joining the cross country team.  This was shocking news to my parents: An artist and an intellect, neither avid sport fans, that one of their daughters would be an athlete but they quickly warmed to the idea of any afterschool activity that would keep me out of trouble.

In the two decades that have passed since that gym class my life became all about running. After running there was competitive cycling then triathlon then back to cycling again (where I met my husband racing) then running again. I love all 3 sports.  Each have challenged and changed me.

Now it's running “season” for me. As a Business Owner, Personal Trainer, wife and busy Mom of 2 little ones- Carleigh (3 years) and Ryder (1 1/2 years) running is the only thing I have enough time for.  Running is something I can do with kids in the jogging stroller which means lots of flat bike trail runs along the river and if babysitters are available a weekly sneak away to the Trails with Hubby.

If I’m not with the kids at the park teaching Baby Boot Camp classes then I’m on the bike trails leading seeMOMMYrun group runs.   When I’m not working out I’m eating.  My favorite food groups are coffee (strong stuff), energy bars, smoothies, homemade pizza and sushi.   When the kids finally get to bed I like curling up besides my husband (his and her laptops are a must) for a breather and a chance to unwind.

How much sleep do you get each night with all the youngters around? Does it affect your running?
