    Who I Am...

I am Steve Swern and I currently run for Rutgers University.  I am a long sprinter (400,500) and a hurdler.  I made this profile because Kyle Grady posts videos of me running about once per week and I want to be able to comment on them, give him a hard time, and generally be a pain in the ass.

I started running when I was like 8 or 9 or something like that for a club team called the Mount Laurel Striders.  Mount Laurel is my home town.  When I turned 14, I moved onto high school and ran for Lenape High School in South Jersey.  Then I decided I would run for Rutgers even though I got a Full Ride to Seton Hall.  Yeah, I know.  Then on May 18th, 2005, I destroyed just about every muscle and ligament and tendon in my pelvis in a freak hurdling accident.  Little did I know that this event would earn me 2 surgeries to that part of my body.  A few months later I destroyed my ankle trying to break into the rutgers football stadium and earned myself yet another surgery on my ankle.  I sat out my freshman year accordingly.  Everyone wrote me off since they'd never seen me run but it was ok.  I came back my sophmore year as a redshirt freshman.  Things were tough at first.  My times were alright but nothing to call home about it.  I just needed to get my feet wet again.  My sophmore season rolled around and things really turned out.  After all was said and done, I tied Ryan Westman's School Record, I won IC4A's in the 500.  And I picked up a silver at Big East championships in 2 races after setting that school record and posting a 46.8 split to anchor our relay.  After all of the turmoil from surgery, things really worked out I'd say.  That's pretty much my entire track history.

Now I am continuing running as a slave for rutgers; Studying math; and being a waitor.  What a life!
