Letting everyone know about a meet at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI just north of Chicago. The Ted Metzger/Take Notice Sports Management Elite is looking for elite jumpers to compete on January 27th. For more details email Lamont Dagen at L_Dagen@yahoo.com. He may be able to hook up out of town jumpers with hotel rooms or you can hit me up and I might be able to give you a room at my place. There may be prize money depending on the quality of the field, check out the website for the meet at http://takenoticespo...vents/index.php

Yes we are back up and running. Updates will start coming in quick! Good luck to everyone in preparation for the season.
jessehj1 (Dec 4 2011, 10:32 PM)
Good luck to everyone jumping in the first weekend of meets, can't wait to get this season started!
TeneoJumper (Nov 30 2011, 10:06 PM)
Thanks everyone! It was an unreal experience winning the world champs. I have aspirations of having a successful end of the season and hoping that it will carry onto next year...the Olympic year! The future looks bright for the USA high jumpers with myself winning worlds and young jumpers like Erik Kynard and Ricky Robertson. There is so much talent in this country there are a # of athletes who have potential world champs and olympic medals to be won in the future. Go USA!

Congrats Jesse! You deserve it man. Way to rep team USA!

Check out a ton of videos from many jumpers at the USA champs under the video section!
jessehj1 (Jun 28 2011, 09:40 PM)
I agree! This is a great team and one the best high jump squads the US has sent to the worlds in a long time. I am happy for the 3 that made it Erik, Dusty and myself because I feel like we have been jumping the best out of anyone else in the US. All of us have a legit shot a winning a medal in Korea. It will be an honor to represent the USA and try to win a medal. I am pulling out of some meets to do just that. My schedule for anyone interested is
Stockholm July 29th
London August 5th and 6th
World Champs qualifying August 30th
World Champs finals September 1st
jessehj1 (Jun 27 2011, 04:40 PM)
Congratulations Jesse!!!! First bar clearances all the way through 7'8" and a clutch 3rd jump to clear 7'9.25". Nine weeks before worlds and you have the world leading jump. This is shaping up to what could be a huge season for you. I expect you to go to South Korea and give the Russians a hell of a battle.

Congratulations to Erik Kynard also. Earning third place and a berth on what could be the first of many World Championship teams. Also good to see Dusty claiming second place and a spot on the team as well. He has jumped well indoors and outdoors this year.

I would say based on the fact that these 3 are all in the top 5 in the world this year, and their consistency this year. With no disrespect to the other very good jumpers in the US. This could very well be the strongest team we have sent to worlds in a couple of decades. Obviously Jesse has just put himself in position to be considered a favorite to win gold. Even with Kynard's lack of international experience at this level, i feel a case could be made that any one of the 3 could find themselves on the podium.

Things are really looking up for USA high jumping. Jesse is leading the pack, but there are several young jumpers out there that look really good and with a little time and experience they could be dangerous.
peastjumpersdad (Jun 27 2011, 02:03 PM)
Just want to say Good Luck to all guys competing at USA Nationals this weekend. Hopefully we will get some good weather and get to see some of the competition on TV instead of just the winning jump.

jessehj1 (Jun 21 2011, 04:22 AM)
Congrats to Erik Kynard. Finally breaking through and winning an NCAA title. Checking out the stats it looks like he was very ready to perform. He had first bar clearances on every height thru 2.26. He should be in the running for indoor and outdoor NCAA titles for the next 2 years. Next up is USA Nationals. I'm very interested to see if he can deal with the more seasoned pro jumpers and the pressure at that meet and grab a spot on the team for Worlds.
peastjumpersdad (Jun 13 2011, 09:07 PM)
Pretty good start list for NCAA. I agree with Jesse that the winning bar should be 2.28 or better. I would really like to see Kynard step up and grab this win. Indoors and Outdoors, he has not only been the most consistent jumper in NCAA, but he has been one of the best in the world. I thought he had a breakthrough at the Big 12 indoor when he blew away the competition to get that win. But he has not been able to do it when the NCAA title has been on the line. I believe if he can get this win, it will be a huge boost to his confidence. If he does and then goes on to compete at the USA Nationals later this month, there is a real possibility that he could take that momentum and grab spot on the World Championship team. He already has the A standard, so he just has to finish top 3 to make the team. Jesse has definitely been the best US jumper for the last four years, but Erik could give him a run for his money if he can take some momentum into that meet.
peastjumpersdad (Jun 7 2011, 04:27 PM)
Yes, Drouin is injured. I believe its his knee but im not sure. He was injured right after the NCAA Indoor Champs.
peastjumpersdad (Jun 7 2011, 04:14 PM)
What happened to Derek Drouin? Is he injured or something?
TaylorBoi (Jun 7 2011, 01:06 PM)
Well weather was a big factor in the West region. It only took 2.11m (6-11) to make the NCAA meet. In the east 2.14m (7-0.25). Should be interesting to see what happens in two weeks!
jessehj1 (May 29 2011, 12:41 AM)
Congratulatins on the big win in Doha Williams.....Way to be clutch....You trying to take all the money huh?? lol

Almost all the major conferences have their championship meets this weekend. Should have some great heights across the country good luck to everyone!
jessehj1 (May 12 2011, 02:58 PM)
Got to see the UPenn freshman, Reynolds, jump last weekend. He easily had an inch over 2.28m and once he gets more consistent we'll see plenty more jumps like that in his future. Also, the reason he wasn't able to jump at Indoor NCAA's was a bad case of food poisoning. Outdoor NCAA's is looking like it will be a great meet
TeneoJumper (May 11 2011, 01:36 AM)
Wow Drake turned out to be a great meet....about time the weather be nice there! 4 people in the USA with the A standard for the world championships and 2 with the B

Congrats on the 2.34 win, Jesse! Tora Harris jumped pretty impressively as well with 2.31. And Morales at 2.28!! The NCAA jumpers have impressed this year for sure.

Ideas on NCAA Rankings?
Guest1 (Apr 12 2011, 03:59 PM)
Big win for Kynard last weekend. I want to say im surprised, but its difficult to say that. He has been consistently clearing 2.28 this year, so it was pretty certain that somebody would have to clear at least that height to have a chance to beat him. I had hoped to see Andra go at least 2.28 and see if Kynard could jump well enough with the pressure to beat him at maybe 2.33. Kynard has had a really good start to outdoor season and as of now I don't see anyone in the NCAA being able to beat him especially with Drouin out of the picture. It appears that someone would have to have a great flight and Kynard would have to have a mediocre day in order to be beaten. There are a couple of guys that could challenge him, rickey robertson being one, but i don't see anyone that has been as consistent as Kynard in the remaining competitors.
peastjumpersdad (Apr 12 2011, 01:55 PM)
I would have to bet on Andra to win at his home track although it wont be easy with several good college jumpers in the competition including Erik Kynard 2.33m indoors. I believe it would be very difficult for anyone in the world to beat Andra at his home track of Texas.
As far as me putting up girls results I have a hard enough time trying to find all the mens results. I do almost everything on my own for the site so if anyone wants to help me out with putting up girls results feel free to email me about it at usajumper@gmail.com. I would love to put more content up on the site but would need some help....
I also wanted to say that the Mt. SAC relays on April 16th will be a good competition....here are some of the jumpers entered as of now
Jim Dilling
Keith Moffat
Jesse Wiliams
Andra Manson
Jim Dilling
Tora Harris
Jamie Nieto
Dusty Jonas
jessehj1 (Apr 7 2011, 04:02 PM)
Hey Jesse. Not sure how many people would really be interested in some of the womens results especially once outdoor season opens but i think it will be a good one.
Chaunte Howard Lowe really had a break out season last year, since she got back into jumping a couple years ago, setting a new American Record (2.05). She had some good attempts trying to increase it and i think she may have a chance to do so this year. I thought she finally came out last year and really gave Blanka Vlasic someone to compete against. Although i believe Blanka will eventually break the world record, i think it will take Chaunte to challenge her even more this year for her to do it. Chaunte hasnt beat Blanka head to head that I know of and i think if that were to happen it would really motivate Blanka even more.

What do you think about that competition?
peastjumpersdad (Apr 7 2011, 02:18 PM)
I feel like Andra will win as well. Its his home track in his home state and he is usually very prepared to start his season there. Also, the forecast for this weekend is upper 80's to low 90's and very sunny. So with those conditions there is a chance that he may go pretty big this weekend.
peastjumpersdad (Apr 7 2011, 01:53 PM)
I think he will win, I think he has too much pride to lose to a college athlete, and he is a great competitor.
Guest1 (Apr 6 2011, 10:30 PM)
This week's million dollar high jump quiz:
1. Will Andra Manson take his 6th straight victory at the Texas Relays?
2. Will he jump an early world lead like in the last 3 years?
;)
msorensen (Apr 6 2011, 05:06 AM)
I know this might be a bad question, but how much money does a top high jumper make, roughly? Not counting prize money - just a sponsorship deal.

And how is training/competition going for everyone? I'm going to get back into jumping next school year. I've started training already, but I'm really going to kick things off in June.
Penso1 (Apr 4 2011, 11:33 PM)
I stumbled upon some sad news about Derek Drouin:
http://iuhoosiers.cs.../033011aaa.html
Best wishes for a smooth recovery.
msorensen (Mar 30 2011, 08:17 PM)
Has there been any good high school jumps? I think these jumpers competing right now are the best coming through in a long time, besides Drouin everyone was disappointing at NCAA's though. I'm looking for 4 or 5 college jumpers over 7'5" this outdoor season...what do you guys think?
Guest1 (Mar 29 2011, 11:53 PM)
I am curious to see what the world champs team will look like as well. Obviously i would have to go with you Jesse as the leading candidate to make the team based on your finish last year and the fact you have probably been the most consistent USA pro, indoors or outdoors, over the last few years. But i am very interested to see if one of these young guys can put together a great flight that day and secure a spot or two on the team. You named a very good list of jumpers that have already either competed for world champs teams, made the team and even competed for and made the Olympic team. So in order for one of the youngsters to do it, they will have to really be on point at Nationals this summer. Overall there is a lot of talent out there and your correct when you say that any one of them could jump to the forefront at Nationals......
peastjumpersdad (Mar 29 2011, 07:38 PM)
Yes the outdoor season will be fun to watch at the NCAA level and USA level. Obviously Erik and Ricky are two of the best jumpers in the USA. They will be trying to make the world champs team this year and both have a really good chance of making it.
(to make the world champs team you have to have the A or B standard. The A 2.31m (7-7) and B 2.28m (7-5.75) have to be jumped this calender year. The USA will take the top 2 A standard jumpers and the first B standard if they beat out the 3rd A standard jumper at the USA Champs)
As of right now Erik and myself have the A standard and Ricky has the B standard no other jumpers in the US have either. Andra Manson (PB 235) and Tora Harris (PB 233) have not jumped this year. These are two high jumpers that have jumped the A standard in the past and are more than capable of jumping it again this year. Also there are a slew of jumpers that are capable of achieving these standards. (Moffat PB 230, Dilling PB 2.30, Nieto PB 234 Jonas PB 236, Norman PB 229 among others)
In the college ranks. I think its clear that Ricky, Erik and Derek are the top 3 jumpers. None of them are unbeatable but thats whats fun about the high jump anything can happen. They did have a 1-2-3 finish at NCAA indoors with Derek blowing them away. Outdoors I am sure will be a different story. Yes Erik has never jumped high at the NCAA meet but he is bound to change that outdoors. Ricky is always solid as well but the mental leader is defiantly Derek winning the last 3 NCAA Champs meets. I dont know if I would bet against him after winning this last title. Whatever happens I am excited to follow it week by week!
jessehj1 (Mar 29 2011, 07:53 PM)
That should have been that im sure that Ukhov has already cleared 2.44 in practice.
peastjumpersdad (Mar 29 2011, 03:09 PM)
I think outdoor season will be very competitive in the NCAA's, but im not so sure about the pro jumpers. Ukhov has been dominant this year indoors. I mean the guy is consistently clearing 7'9.75" and even making attempts at the indoor world record. I felt like sometime in the next 5 years one of these young jumpers would be taking attempts at the record, but Ukhov seems to be on the verge of at least clearing the magical 8' mark. I would venture to say that he has probably already cleared that height in practice at least a couple of times and has probably taken attempts at world record in practice. I remember when my son was trying to clear 7'. I remember Bill Parcells once saying that "confidence comes from demonstrated ability". I told him that once he did it in practice, he would be able to clear it in a meet because he needed the confidence to know he could. Right now it appears that Ukhov is extremely confident and has been oh so close to clearing 2.40, that im sure he has already done it in practice.
peastjumpersdad (Mar 29 2011, 03:03 PM)
Hopefully outdoor season will come close to matching indoor season. One of the best NCAA indoor seasons that I can remember. Drouin, Kynard and Robertson seemed to be in the mix the entire season. I agreed with Jesse after Kynard broke off that 7'7.75", when he said that Kynard should be the man to beat, but Drouin showed that he is hard to beat in big meets after earning his 3rd NCAA title in a row and also going 7'7.75" to match Kynard for #1 in NCAA. I was disappointed to see Kynard only go 7'2.5" at the championships. I always felt that he didnt jump well in big meets, but felt like he was starting change that perception after blowing away the competition at the Big 12 champs. I still think he has potential to win NCAA's but he and Robertson just need more seasoning and jumps in big meets.
peastjumpersdad (Mar 29 2011, 02:49 PM)
Who surprised you at the NCAA championship?
Guest1 (Mar 28 2011, 02:20 AM)
What are your guys thoughts on the outdoor season...Lets get some discussions going..
Guest1 (Mar 28 2011, 02:18 AM)
Check out Dereks jump. He smoked 2.33m (7-7.75) and looks like he can go much higher. I am sure outdoors will be exciting to watch
jessehj1 (Mar 14 2011, 08:18 PM)
This might not be the most qualified prediction as I live in Denmark, Europe - but anyway: I put my money on Derek Drouin to take the NCAA indoor title!
msorensen (Mar 12 2011, 01:46 PM)
yes the college kids are jumping very well this year. Not only is the leading college mark 2.33m (7-7.75) but there are 15 guys over 2.21m (7-3). Its the best college jumping has been in a long time. I am excited to see what happens this weekend. I am sure there will be a lot of big performances. Will be interesting to see how high Kynard can go. He is capable of jumping much higher than 2.33m!
