so we are two and a half weeks from Beach to Bay Relay and i'm the weakest leg on my team.  i had every intention of training properly to avoid slowing the team down.  two injuries, a promotion at work, and major presentations and papers due for school have lead me to train inconsistantly, thus the feeling that i have let my team down.  now we do have a very capapble alternate but being the stubborn runner that i am, i feel that i can still perform well enough.  it is highly doubtful that training my ass off for the next two weeks will help any but if it gives me a psychological edge, i'll take it.

Thats a hard position to be in trying to decide what you want for yourself and looking out for the best interest of your team.  I have done both and which ever decision you make will have its positives and negatives but the only decision that has stayed with me over the years is the one where I gave up the spot for someone else thinking they would do better.  Guess what, they didn't and I lost out on the experience and the team did worse than if I had run.  I say go for it and think that your doing whats best for yourself and the team.

after talking to some of my team about it, they have been nothing but supportive of me. one friend of mine summed it up simply as "man just go out there and run".. so i'm gonna ride it out and do my best and hope everything works out ok

Is this the race in Vermont? How long is each leg and the total distance? Good luck and I hope it all turns out well for you!
