While attending Dover High School in Wisconsin, she ran 2:34 to finish 9th at the 1984 Olympic Trials. A incredible performance that will be hard to top. She went on to represent the U.S. at the 88' and 92' Olympics and won the LA Marathon in 1991.","date_added":"Sep 26th 2013, 2:18am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":178153,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"i\/no_avatar.png","pb_title":"mulhjo","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=51039","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/mulhjo.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1227104"},"1014705":{"pb_id":"44418","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"867880","pid":"1014705","comment_id":"1014705","member_id":"44418","comment":"Dover HS is in New Hampshire actually. \n
\nI think with the way professional finances are tilting toward the roads and away from track and field, it's natural that younger athletes are going to recognize that and begin to zero in on it. I recall Eddie Owens running really well in the New York Half Marathon a couple of years ago and thinking that it was unusual for a high school kid to take a stab at something like that.
\n
\nBut not unprecedented. In 1970, a high school girl from Oregon named Carolyn Walker set a world record in the marathon for women when she ran 3:01.","date_added":"Sep 18th 2013, 9:13pm","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":{"wally_id":"1082747","email_settings":"4294967295","email":"dbind4@aol.com","address":"DougB","gender":"u","member_id":"44418","member_name":"DougB","avatar_location":"av-44418.jpg","avatar_type":"upload","avatar":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg"},"can_delete":false,"item_id":178153,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg","pb_title":"DougB","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=44418","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/DougB.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1082747"},"858686":{"pb_id":"4513","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"858686","comment_id":"858686","member_id":"4513","comment":"I believe she could be exactly that.
