The largest college track and field meet in the Pacific Northwest takes place today and Friday at McCulloch Stadium.

The Willamette Invitational features more than 900 athletes representing 57 clubs and teams.

Competition gets under way at 3 p.m. today with the hammer throw and distance running events, called the Celebration of Distance.

Former Willamette NCAA Division III champion middle-distance runner Nick Symmonds, who participated in last summer's world championships, will make an appearance early in the evening and sign autographs.
