Robles to return to Hengelo - IAAF

Published by

World 110m Hurdles record holder Dayron Robles will be aiming at redemption when he steps of the track at the the 29th edition of the FBK-Games in Hengelo next 29th May.

For the Cuban Olympic champion it will only be the second outdoor meeting on a high level since being forced out of competition for 10 months due to an injury. Last weekend he celebrated his comeback with a victory in a rainy Guadeloupe where he clocked 13.35 under far from ideal conditions.

Robles was also present at last year’s FBK-Games edition in Hengelo. With an unfortunate fall on one of the hurdles he didn’t have a chance for victory. This year Robles wants to erase this painful memory.

“Hengelo and Ostrava, two days later, will be important competitions for me,” Robles said in Guadeloupe. “Now that I have run a race with a successful ending again the ice is broken. Now it’s important to run a relaxed race from start to end again.”

Robles ended his outdoor season last year after the Lausanne meeting on 8 July where he ran 13.01, his best time of 2010.

The Olympic champion and the current World Indoor 60m Hurdles champion will have to compete in Hengelo among others against Great Britain’s Andy Turner and the two Dutch top athletes Gregory Sedoc and Marcel van der Westen.

European champion Turner won the last two editions of the FBK-Games in 2009 and 2010 and has a personal best of 13.27. Marcel van der Westen surprisingly triumphed in Hengelo in 2008 and ran a new personal record of 13.35.

Sedoc won the European Indoor championships in 2007 over 60m Hurdles with van der Westen right behind him. At the European championships two years later Gregory Sedoc took home the silver medal.
