Reigning 100-metre sprint world champion Yohan Blake will race in Edmonton at the Donovan Bailey Invitational track meet on June 16.
Blake, 22, a training partner and Jamaican teammate of world record holder Usain Bolt, won the 100-metre sprint at the 2011 World Championship in Athletics in Daegu, Korea in a time of 9.92 seconds after Bolt false-started in the final and was disqualified. His personal best time for the 100 metres time is 9.82.
The confirmation of Blake, who also was part of Jamaica’s gold medal-winning 4×100-metre relay team in Daegu, is a major coup for meet organizer Peter Ogilvie, executive-director of Athletics Alberta, and the driving force behind the Edmonton event, part of Canada’s National Track League (NTL).
