ST. CATHARINES - Calum Westbrook packs his rod for just about every track and field meet he enters.

The Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School student isn’t ready to blow somebody away on the track just yet, but the rod is his good luck charm and a reminder of how far he’s come the past couple of years.

The rod is a piece of metal that was used to keep his femur together after it was broken during a high school football game 11/2 years ago. It was surgically removed last year, just in time for the 17-year-old to resume track and field.
