Highland senior Caroline McLeskey was 13th in the 5-kilometer Division 1 girls final in 19:09.2 at the Arizona AIA state championship meet at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix. In third place by a significant margin, McLeskey collapsed with less than 150 meters remaining in the race and wasn't able to return to her feet. Despite her struggle, McLeskey managed to crawl to the finish line to be the second scorer for Highland, which as a result of her courageous effort, finished runner-up with 99 points, ahead of third-place Xavier Prep with 106 points. Had McLeskey been unable to finish, Highland would have placed third.
