A full preview story will follow later this week but for now here is a snapshot of what to expect...

100 m: expected duel between Powell and Lemaitre, the French, who is gaining in strength, will he manage to win for the first time in the Diamond League?

400m (non DL): Fight for supremacy in the discipline between the 21-year-old Bartholomew (GRN) and Henry (Virgin Islands). As for Jonathan Borlée, will he be the first European under 45 seconds this season?

800m: Following his injury, Rudisha’s second race after his return in Nancy, maybe a new meeting record is possible, especially since he will be pushed by the European champion Lewandowski and his countryman Kszczot, and by World champion Mulaudzi.

5000m: There has never been such a level of contenders (11 of them under 13 mins) to run this distance at la Pontaise. Who amongst the Kenyans Chepkok, Choge and Kiptoo or amongst the Ethiopians Merga, T. Gebremeskel and T. Bekele will succeed? Stadium record?

110mH (not DL): Dayron Robles (World record holder) is the favourite…sub 13sec? Also to watch is the World champion Brathwaite (USA) and Turner (GBR), the European champion.

400mH: Will this be the fifth time under 48 seconds this season for the South African Van Zyl? His compatriot Fredericks (21) could follow this path. Clement (USA) and Greene (GBR) also have the means to win.

Pole Vault: Battle between Lavillenie (FRA), Mohr (GER), Mazuryk (UKR), and Mesnil (FRA), the winner in New York.

Triple Jump: A highly anticipated contest. Seven athletes competing have already jumped over 17.50m. Tamgho (FRA) and Idowu (GBR) are the favourites. The stadium record of Oprea could fall.

Shot Put: The 7 best performers of the year will be present. A 22m battle between Hoffa (USA), Armstrong (CAN), Majewski (POL) and Cantwell (USA) should take place. Will the meeting record of Günthör hold?

Javelin: Very open race this year with previous Samsung Diamond League winners Frydrych (Doha), Da Zordo (Oslo) and Pitkämäki (Shanghai) or will Thorkildsen, back from injury, be the winner?

200m: Fraser-Pryce (JAM) vs Povh (UKR) and Ferguson-McKenzie (BAH). Outsiders: Mothersill (Cay) and Moore (USA).

400m: After Oslo, Montsho (BOT) is the favourite. Do Richards-Ross or Sherika Williams have the means to prevent her from getting the win?

1500m: Maryam Jamal (BRN), 3 times winner, will meet again Gelete Burka (Eth), who won the last two editions and Ibtissam Lakhouad, the Moroccan, who was beaten by a thread last year. All three have already run under 4 minutes at La Pontaise.

100mH: the 3 best performers of the season are here, the Americans Wells, Carruthers and Jones. Also to look at Lisa Urech…for a new Swiss record?

3000m Steeplechase: held for the first time in Lausanne. The winners in Doha, Rome and New York, Chemos (KEN) is the favourite. Her main contenders are: Assefa (ETH), Njoroge (KEN), Rotich (KEN) and Ghribi (TUN).

High Jump: The big favourite: Vlasic (CRO) who is now back over 2m. Other contenders are Green (SWE) and Chicherova (RUS).

Long Jump: Will Reese (USA) - 7.19m at the weekend - win in Lausanne for a second time? Shutkova (BLR), 6.95 this year, will not let herself easily be beaten.

Discus Throw: Olympic champion Brown-Trafton (USA) seems to be a cert with the absence of many of the others from the current world elite.
