FRESNO -- The Scotts Valley High boys cross country team -- enjoying its best season in school history -- was excited to qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships.

The Falcons, who won their first Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and Central Coast Section Division IV team titles this year, were hoping to produce a top-10 finish at state.

Scotts Valley exceeded its expectations by taking fifth out of the 23 teams that qualified Saturday afternoon on the 3.1-mile Woodward Park Course in Fresno.
