West Salem high jumper places for third consecutive yearBy Bill Poehler and Rob Holderness • Statesman Journal EUGENE — Jordan Bishop was close yet again, but a state championship still eludes him. The West Salem High School senior placed second in Thursday's high jump at the OSAA Class 6A state track and field meet at Hayward Field for the second consecutive year. Bishop's best clearance was 6 foot, 8 inches, two inches short of state champion Spencer Patterson, a senior from Tigard. "I was going against some great jumpers towards the end there and Spencer was, as you can tell, the best jumper in the state and he performed in the clutch and you've got to give him a lot of credit," Bishop said. The state championship, however, was within Bishop's grasp. With only he and Patterson left after 6-8, Bishop led the competition by virtue of the number of misses and Patterson opted to skip 6-9.
