Jenkins era ending at New Oxford

New Oxford’s Jordan Jenkins is a walking definition of happy-go-lucky. When running, that definition changes entirely.

The Colonial’s distance-running star continued to tear down her own records in her senior season, finishing the PIAA Class-AAA race for a silver medal-earning time of 10:38.38, nearly nine seconds better than her previous best. It was more than enough to earn Jenkins a share of the 2009 Girls Track and Field Co-Athlete of the Year.

The last few years, Jenkins has maintained that her focus was on her time, not so much her placement. This year, the fullfillment was not quite the same.

“I wanted to break five (minutes) in the 1600 and run faster in the 3200,” Jenkins said, acknowledging that she achieved both during her senior season. “I wanted to get a gold, but obviously that didn’t happen.”

The gold Jenkins is referring to is the PIAA gold. She did, in fact, earn a pair of District 3 golds with a time of 10:47.23 in the 3200 and 5:02.33 in the 1600.
