Portland Sweeps 2008 WCC Cross Country ChampionshipsPublished by
BELMONT, Calif. - The University of Portland swept the 2008 WCC
Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on a soggy day at the
Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, California. On the men's side, the Pilots extended one of the most
impressive streaks in Division I athletics, capturing their 30th
consecutive league title. The 30 consecutive conference titles trails
only the University of Arkansas, which has claimed 34 straight league
crowns (17 SWC and 17 SEC titles). Portland's 30 consecutive cross
country titles in one league marks the longest streak in the nation. Loyola Marymount finished as runner-up in both races, making
this year's championships the closet in recent memory. On the men's
side, only 10 points separated the Pilots and the Lions, making it the
closet finish in league history, while the women's race was the
slimmest margin of victory since 1991. Read the full article at: wccsports.cstv.com
