School record for Northside Christian's Greenleaf

Lost in the late-night swirl of distance events Friday at the Florida Relays was a career performance in the girls 1,600 meters by Northside Christian's Katelyn Greenleaf.

Against an elite field, Greenleaf placed seventh in 5:06.01, eclipsing Brianne Harrington's school mark (5:06.9) by fractions of a second. According to flrunners.com, Greenleaf's time ranks first in the state in Class 1A and 58th nationally.

The two-day event, at the University of Florida's Percy Beard Track, attracted hundreds of prep, pro and collegiate standouts, Lakewood senior Kala Funderburk was Pinellas County's only individual champion, winning the girls 800 (2:16.43). Pinellas Park's Edward Galan was second in the pole vault and Countryside's Parker Polgar was fifth. Both cleared 14 feet, but Galan hit the mark before Polgar.
