Results from today's Ford/CIF-Southern Section Divisional Cross Country Preliminaries, presented by Farmers.

 

Division I Boys Results

  • Trabuco Hills recorded the fastest team time in 78:09.
  • Team heat winners were Arcadia, Vista Murrieta, California and Trabuco Hills.
  • Fastest individual time was 15:03 by Trabuco Hills' Naoki Omatsu.
  • Individual heat winners were Long Beach Poly's Miguel Bautista (15:19), El Toro's Juan Gonzalez (15:03), Santa Fe's Kevin Ramirez (15:29) and Trabuco Hills' Naoki Omatsu (15:03).
  • All 13 CIF-ranked teams advanced to Finals. (We're heading to Vegas!)
  • All 16 of the seeded teams advanced. (We're staying in Vegas an extra day!)
  • In terms of points, Fountain Valley was the closest non-qualifer, 23 points away.
  • All 13 teams that broke 80 minutes qualified for finals.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was 80:24 by Simi Valley.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifier was 80:53 by Paloma Valley.
  • Individual qualifiers were Santa Fe' Kevin Ramirez (15:29), Edison's Jeff Thies (15:17), Santa Fe's Ervy Rodriguez (15:44), Santiago's Robert Lopez  (15:29), Downey's Andres Velasco (15:30), Santa Monica's Arden Lassalle (15:37), and Quartz Hill's Bradley Wiggs (15:32). 

Division II Boys Results

  • Westlake recorded the fastest team time in 78:04.
  • Team heat winners were Dos Pueblos, Westlake, Saugus and Righetti.
  • Fastest individual time was 14:59 (!!) by Dos Pueblos' Bryan Fernandez.
  • Individual heat winners were Dos Pueblos' Bryan Fernandez (14:59), Canyon of Anaheim's Austin Goins (15:11), Villa Park's Garrett Corcoran (15:07) and Redondo Union's William Tait (15:29).
  • Of the 13 CIF-ranked teams, 12 advanced to Finals. #12 Moorpark was the lone ranked team not to advance.
  • Of the 16 seeds, 14 advanced to finals. There were no surprises, however. Unseeded Beaumont and unseeded West Torrance were previously ranked in the Top 10 this year and regained their prior form.
  • In terms of points, Foothill was the closest non-qualifer, just four points away.
  • All 16 team qualifiers ran 80 minutes flat or faster to advance — deeper than Division 1 (!).
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was 80:00 by West Torrance.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 80:22 … the exact  time achieved by four different teams!
  • Individual qualifiers were Villa Park's Garrett Corcoran (15:07), Valley View's Emilio Nunez (15:10), Godinez's Jose Penaloza (15:03), Rowland's David Galvez (15:04), Arroyo's Samuel Garcia (15:14), Claremont's Jimmy Baeskens (15:23), Colony's Nick Valenzuela (15:11), Woodbridge's Jackson Marshall (15:24), Newbury Park's Jonathan Byrne (15:39), and Camarillo's Joel Gonzalez (15:17).

Division III Boys Results

  • Brea Olinda recorded the fastest team time in 79:05.
  • Team heat winners were Palos Verdes, St. John Bosco and Brea Olinda.
  • Fastest individual time was 15:14 by Buena Park's Gilbert Solarza.
  • Individual heat winners were Jurupa Hills Michael Teran (15:29), St. John Bosco's Myles Smith (15:21) and Buena Park's Gilbert Solarza (15:14).
  • Of the 13 CIF-ranked teams, 11 qualified for Finals. Only #8 Esperanza and #13 South Pasadena did not advance. Eesperanza'susual  #1 runner, who later left in an ambulance, finished a distant seventh in the team order. South Pasadena missed qualifiying for the at-large berth (based on team time) by just 10 seconds.
  • Of the 16 seeds, 13 advanced to Finals. Of the three remaining qualifiers, Bonita was previously ranked in CIF and Granite Hills was a Top 20 seed.
  • In this three-heat division where the last qualifier is based on team time, San Luis Obispo finished seven seconds away from qualifying as an at-large team.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was 82:37 by Mater Dei.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 80:44 by San Luis Obispo.
  • Individual qualifiers were Buena Park's Gilbert Solarza (15:14), Indio's David Luna (15:21), Rio Mesa's James Fitzgerald (15:42), Santa Margarita's Gilbert Marasigan (15:48), Yucca Valley's Jeff Larsen (15:57), South Pasadena's Paul Messana (15:51), San Luis Obispo's Josh Ernst (15:37) and South Pasadena's Joshua Wilson (15:53). 

Division IV Boys Results

  • Crean Lutheran posted the fastest team time in 81:43.
  • Team heat winners were Fillmore and Crean Lutheran.
  • Fastest individual time was 15:14 by La Salle's Daniel De La Torre.
  • Individual heat winners were La Salle's Daniel De La Torre (15:14) and Crespi's Joe-Joe Cortez Adams (15:42).
  • All 13 CIF-ranked teams advanced to Finals (We're moving to Vegas!)
  • Of the 16 seeds, 14 advanced to Finals. There were no surprises, however, as unseeded Maranatha and unseeded Oaks Christian both were previously ranked this season.
  • In terms of points, Nordhoff was the closest non-qualifier, finishing 19 points away.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was 85:43 by Maranatha.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 87:33 by Nordhoff.
  • Individual qualifiers were La Salle's Daniel De La Torre (15:14), Nordhoff's Robin Allison (16:17), Bassett's Douglas Castro (16:10), Oxford Academy's Robert Miyoshi (16:19), Nipomo's Alex Hascal (16:24) and Riverside Prep's Domingo Galeana (16:30).   

 

Division V Boys Results

  • Xavier Prep posted the fastest team time in 84:01.
  • Team heat winners were St. Maragret's, Xavier Prep and Thacher.
  • Fastest individual time was 15:59 by Sherman Indian's Isaiah Thompson.
  • Individual heat winners were Brentwood's Cosmo Brossy (16:29), Xavier Prep's Emery Caster (16:20), and Sherman Indian's Isaiah Thompson (15:59).
  • Of the 13 CIF-ranked teams, 12 qualified for Finals. The lone exception was #13 Pacifica Christian, which finished tenth in its heat.
  • Of the 16 seeds, 12 advanced to Finals. This division was very tough to track, with limited results available. Many D5 schools do invitationals sparingly and do not submit league results.
  • In this three-heat division where the last qualifier is based on team time, Cate finished 16 seconds away from qualifying as an at-large team.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifer was 91:59 by Ontario Christian. 
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 92:15 by Cate.
  • The individual qualifers were Brentwood's Cosmo Brossy (16:29), Sherman Indian's Isaiah Thompson (15:59), Buckley's Nicolas Martin (16:23), Orcutt Academy's Nick Murrillo (16:27), Southlands Christian's Matt Herrera (16:49) and Hesperia Christian's Timothy Baum (16:47).

 

Division I Girls Results

  • Simi Valley posted the fastest team time in 89:57.
  • Team heat winners were Great Oak, Simi  Valley, Capistrano Valley and San Clemente.
  • Fastest individual time was 16:41 by Simi Valley's Sarah Baxter.
  • Individual heat winners were La Quinta's Megan Huebner (17:40), Simi Valley's Sarah Baxter (16:41), Capistrano Valley's Grace Schafer (18:01) and Paloma Valley's Kiara McIntosh (18:01).
  • Of the 13 CIF-ranked teams, 12 qualified for Finals. The lone exception was #9 Fountain Valley, which was slightly off in the "Heat of Death" and finished just 19 points from second place!
  • Of the 16 seeds, 14 advanced to Finals. Unseeded Arcadia was previously ranked in the Top 10 this season.
  • In terms of points, M.L. King was the closest non-qualifier, finishing just 1 point away.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was Millikan at 97:32. 
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 95:43.
  • The heats proved to be fairly balanced, but the #14 seed unfortunately ran nearly two minutes slower than it did on this same course a month earlier, allowing a 'surprise' qualifier to emerge.
  • The individual qualifiers were La Quinta's Megan Huebner (17:40), Paloma Valley's Kiara McIntosh (18:01), Valencia's Olivia Pear (18:18), Los Osos' Sarah Holloway (18:26) and Chapparal's Chandler Kerr (18:30). 

 

Division II Girls Results

  • Saugus posted the fastest team time in 92:14.
  • Team heat winners were Saugus, Colony, Serrano and Tesoro.
  • Fastest individual time was 17:25 by Newport Harbor's Paige Tennison.
  • Individual heat winners were Golden Valley's Bianca Tinoco (17:48), Newport Harbor's Paige Tennison (17:25), Moorpark's Monika Gyalay and Dos Pueblos' Addi Zerrenner.
  • All 13 of the CIF-ranked teams made it Finals. (We're taking a detour to Laughlin on the way to Vegas!)
  • Of the 16 seeds, 13 advanced to Finals. There were no surprises, however, as unseeded Claremont and unseeded Ayala both were previously ranked in the Top 10 this season while Thousand Oaks was the #17 seed.
  • In terms on points, Glendora was the closest non-qualifier, unable to advance on a sixth-runner tiebreaker after the last two teams in contention tied on points.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifer was 97:58 by Thousand Oaks.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team 96:34 by Newbury Park.
  • Glendora, which had a bit of an off day, lost the last qualifying spot on a sixth-runner tie breaker, allowing Thousand Oaks team to advance as an auto qualifier ahead of Newbury Park (in a separate heat), which finished 14 points better in their head-on league finals encounter.
  • The individual qualifiers were Newport Harbor's Paige Tennison (17:25), Dos Pueblos' Addi Zerrenner (17:39), Murrieta Mesa's Taylor Taite (17:52), Westlake's Jenny Giguere (18:09), Arroyo Grande's Jocelyn Reynolds (18:23) and Sultana's Moriah Munyan (18:13).  

 

Division III Girls Results

  • Bonita posted the fastest team time in 93:00.
  • Team heat winners were Bonita, Palos Verdes and Laguna Hills.
  • Fastest individual time was 17:28 by Beverly Hills' Sydney Segal.
  • Individual heat winners were Bonita's Mackenzie Landa (18:08), Beverly Hills' Sydney Segal (17:28) and Northwood's Bethan Knights (17:50).
  • Of the 13 CIF-ranked teams, 10 qualified for Finals. #8 El Dorado, which had only six finishers, #12 Lompoc and #13 Santa Barbara did not advance.
  • Of the 16 seeds, 11 advanced to Finals. The real surpise (of the whole meet) was Torrance coming from off the radar to advance.
  • In this three-heat division where the last qualifier is based on team time, Brea Olinda finished 34 seconds away from qualifying as an at-large team.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was 99:59 by Bolsa Grande.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 100:33 by Brea Olinda.
  • This division was easily the most frustrating, and it started well before prelims day. One key county meet never submitted results, which might have impacted the rankings. Another county meet submitted its results the day after the meet, but when made a very significant change two days later which was not reported to us until a couple of days AFTER the CIF-SS Prelims was seeded, causing an additional team and a late re-seed. Much frustration.
  • The individual qualifiers were Bishop Amat's Emily Hubert (18:11), Azusa's Roxanne Valle (18:14), Hesperia's Stefani Gaskel(18:35), Rubidoux's Fernanda Rodriguez (18:34), El Dorado's Cassidy Towner (18:40) and Jurupa Hills' Olga Mondragon (19:07). 

 

Division IV Girls Results

  • JSerra posted the fastest team time in 97:17.
  • Team heat winners were JSerra and Notre Dame/S.O.
  • Fastest individual time was 18:11 by Bishop Montgomery's Danielle Shanahan.
  • Individual heat winners were Crean Lutheran's Lauren Maurer (18:23) and Bishop Montgomery's Danielle Shanahan (18:11).
  • Of the 13 CIF-ranked teams, all 13 teams advanced to Finals.
  • Of the 16 seeds, all 16 seeds made it to Finals!
  • In terms of points, Morro Bay was the closest team not to make Finals, losing on a sixth-runner tiebreaker.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was 104:08 by Immaculate Heart.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 104:06 by Morro Bay.
  • The individual qualifiers were Bishop Montgomery's Danielle Shanahan (18:11), Malibu's Carolyn Pietrzyk (18:37), Marlborough's Bianca Alonzo (19:16), Maranatha's Hannah Rae Finchamp (19:21), Nipomo's Kyra Meko (19:20) and Santa Ana Calvary Chapel's Emily Scott (19:30).  

 

Division V Girls Results

  • Thacher posted the fastest team time in 99:32.
  • Team heat winners were Thacher and Xavier Prep.
  • Fastest individual time was 18:16 by Mammoth's Jody Meads.
  • Individual heat winners were Sacred Heart of Jesus' Ashley Flores (18:33) and Mammoth's Jody Meads (18:16).
  • Of the 13 CIF-ranked teams, all 13 advanced to Finals. 
  • Of the 16 seeds, the top 15 seeds all advanced to Finals.
  • In terms of points, Cate was the closest team to not make Finals, finishing 29 points away from a spot.
  • The slowest team time by a team qualifier was 111:01 by Brentwood.
  • The fastest team time by a non-qualifying team was 111:28 by Downey Calvary Chapel.
  • The individual qualifiers were Mammoth's Jody Meads (18:16), Cate's Charlotte Monke (19:37), Alverno's Eryn Blakely (19:55) and Sierra Canyon's Raina Sprock (19:56).
