FOURTH BERLIN VICTORY FOR GEBRSELASSIE

There was no world record, but Haile Gebrselassie won his fourth real-,Berlin Marathon today in sunny and warm conditions.

With the last pacemaker dropping out about one hour and 34 minutes into the race, Gebrselassie ran alone to the finish past Brandenburg Gate in 2:06:08 (unofficial), the slowest of his four victories here, and well off of his world record of 2:03:59 set last year.  Gebrselassie immediately bent over exhausted after he finished, his face showing the strain of the race.

Kenyan Francis Kiprop finished second in a personal best 2:07:04 (unofficial), and Ethiopian Negari Terfa was third in 2:07:43 (unofficial), also a career best.

There was no official word yet on Duncan Kibet who may have dropped out.
