NCAA Championships: Henning finishes undefeated season with weight throw title
Published by
For the third NCAA Championship in a row, Steffen Nerdal (Memphis) threw a personal best. However, just like last indoor season, it was not enough and Nerdal placed second behind Walter Henning (LSU). After a first round foul and mediocre second round throw, Henning took the lead in the third round with a throw of 23.56m and didn't look back. Nerdal came close in the third round with a personal best of 23.22m, but had to settle for second place. Freshman Alexander Ziegler (Virginia Tech) placed third. Leif Arrhenius (BYU) threw a big first round PR before running into foul trouble and finishing in fourth. Many of the other finalists also threw well. Fifth place finisher Aaron Studt (Minnesota) tied his personal best, while seventh place finisher K.P. Singh (Oklahoma) set a new best. Last year's indoor champion Jason Lewis placed just sixth.
