Former Ridgeland High School track standout Bianca Knight, a freshman at the University of Texas, has given up her collegiate eligiblity to run professionally, her mother Annie Knight confirmed Tuesday.

The 19-year old signed with an agent Monday, less than a week after running the second fastest time ever by an American runner to win the 200 meter title at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field championship.

“The plan all along was for her to run one year of college to get some experience running against collegiate runners and being away from home, and grow up a little bit,” said Annie Knight. “She kinda super exceeded expectations, so it wasn’t really a reason to stay. In a small period of time she left her mark in college.”
