Cleveland girls get another relay record

State Meet Highlights

New Mexico conducts its state championships for 3A, 4A and 5A schools a week after the A and 2A meet. There are a few quirks to how the meet operates. Individual events score 7-5-4-3-2-1, but relay victories are worth more: 10-8-6-4-2-1. The championships were impacted by rain, sleet, hail and lightning.

Top Performances:

- Natasha Bernal of La Cueva won the 6A 800 meters (2:14.42), the 1,600 (5:16.87) and the 3,200 in 11:10.00.

- The Cleveland (Abq) quartet of Aphiniti Crupper, Sarah Mackin, Caitlin Bernard and Nia Powdrell broke the state’s all-time record in the 4x200 with 1:40.71.
