Prep track: SJN's Ullrich shows big improvement in winning pole vaultJACKSONVILLE — One day after posting strong performances at the Class 1A State High School Track and Field Championships held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, a pair of local athletes expressed satisfaction with their effort at the state meet. Brian Ullrich, a senior at St. John Neumann, won the pole vault, clearing a height of 14 feet. Even though two others matched that mark, Ullrich was awarded the first place medal on the basis of fewer misses. In the girls meet, Seacrest senior Hana Sladick was a close second in both of her specialties, the shot put and discus. Her shot put toss of 36-10¼ was just seven inches behind the winner while a 123-foot throw in the discus left her 10 inches behind the first-place finisher.
