For the second consecutive Friday, Liberty senior Clendon Henderson
posted the NCAA’s top discus throw to date this season. His career-best
204-3 heave, which came on his sixth and final attempt, enabled him to
win the event in dramatic fashion at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas
Relays.
Henderson (Meadow, Texas), competing in his home state, opened with a
big 200-6 throw. However, he had fallen to third place, behind UCLA’s
two-time All-American Greg Garza (201-10) and Cal’s Martin Maric
(200-7), when the senior stepped up for his last throw.
Henderson then won the competition with a new Liberty and Big
South-record toss, which stretched the tape to 204-3. Friday’s throws
by Henderson, Garza and Maric are the top three marks in the nation in
2008.
