ADIDAS AND BOSTON MARATHON EXTEND CONTRACT

The Boston Athletic Association, founders and organizers of the Boston Marathon, announced today that they had extended their sponsorship arrangement with adidas through 2021.  The B.A.A. and the Boston marathon have already been partners for the last 20 years, so the contract extention came as no surprise.

"The Boston Marathon is the world's most prestigious road race," declared Patrik Nilsson, president of adidas America through a media release.  " Runners of all levels travel to Boston each April to run, cheer or simply watch history being made.  As a running brand it is the place to be."

adidas will continue to be the official supplier and outfitter of the Boston Marathon, outfitting more than 10,000 race volunteers, media members, medical personnel, race officials and staff with either adidas footwear, apparel or both.  In addition, the extension expands on the adidas role to include exclusive rights to manufacture, distribute, promote and sell B.A.A. branded apparel.

adidas first sponsored the Boston Marathon in 1989.  "adidas has been with the B.A.A. and with runners every step of the way," said B.A.A. executive director, Guy Morse.

The 113th Boston Marathon takes place on Monday.
