Performance of the Week, 2/8/16

 

What a great weekend of high school track and field as three national indoor high school records were set and several U.S. No. 1 performances were produced. In addition, the final qualifying meets for the California Winter Outdoor Championships were held across the state. Who had the best weekend? Go ahead and vote for two.

 

Bianca Alonzo, Marlborough: Ran U.S. No. 14 2:53.62 to place sixth in the indoor 1,000 meters at the Armory Track Invitational in New York.

Joseph Anderson, Upland: Clocked a state-leading 8.00 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the Azusa Pacific qualifier for the Winter Outdoor Championships.

Chloe Arriaga, Walnut: Freshman ran a state-leading 10:21.96 in the 3,000 meters at the Azusa Pacific qualifier for the Winter Outdoor Championships.

Darius Carbin, Mt. Pleasant: Won triple jump at New Balance Boise Indoor with a leap of 45-1. Also took fourth in 60-meter hurdles in 8.46 seconds and long jump with an effort of 21-2.25.

Courtney Corrin, Harvard-Westlake: Produced long jump of 19-5 at the Redondo Union qualifier for the Winter Outdoor Championships.

Isaac Cortes, Great Oak: Clocked 1:21.37 in the 600 meters at the Azusa Pacific qualifier for the Winter Outdoor Championships.

Zaria Francis, Rio Mesa: Ran U.S. No. 2 7.40 seconds in the 60-meter dash at New Balance Boise Indoor, just behind the 7.36 run by Cassondra Hall at Vanderbilt. Also produced U.S. No. 5 24.10 in 200.

Cameron Kunde, Nordhoff: Set state-leading mark of 4:00.94 in 1,500 at the Redondo Union qualifier for the Winter Outdoor Championships.

Trevor Reid, Notre Dame: Clocked 7.04 seconds in the 60-meter dash at the Azusa Pacific qualifier for the Winter Outdoor Championships.

Kaelin Roberts, Carson: Produced a state-leading 38.72 in the 300 meters at the Redondo Union qualifier for the Winter Outdoor Championships.

Lauren Rain Williams, Oaks Christian: Ran a nation-leading 23.47 seconds in the 200 meters at New Balance Boise Indoor. Also clocked U.S. No. 5 7.48 in the 60-meter dash to finish second to Zaria Francis.

Myles Webb, Rio Mesa: Ran 7.04 seconds to place second in 60-meter dash at New Balance Boise Indoor.

Orange County Heat: Mission Viejo’s Kennedy Gillian, Sahla Cook and Whitney Hessler, along with Laguna Beach’s Coco Putnam, won the 4 x 200 relay at New Balance Boise Indoor in 1:42.38.
