2008 Olympian Nick Symmonds To Open 2009 Season In Boston

Eugene, Oregon – The Oregon Track Club Elite will be sending several athletes across the country during the upcoming weekend. OTC Elite will be represented at three different competitions over varying terrains. "Getting the athletes to the right competitions is an important part of what we do," says first year OTC Elite Coach Mark Rowland, "and this week is no different with athletes in Boston, Maryland and California."

Nick Symmonds, the 2008 Olympic Trials Champion in the 800 meters will open his season over 1,000 meters at the Boston Indoor Games, which will be held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, Massachusetts on Saturday, February 7th. Symmonds, who hasn't competed since September, is looking forward to "getting out and having a chance to compete again."

Stephen Pifer will be representing OTC Elite at the 2009 USA National Cross Country Championships, which are being held in Derwood, Maryland. Pifer, fresh off an indoor 3,000 meter personal best of 7:54.59 in Seattle last weekend, will be looking to finish in the top six—the number of athletes chosen to represent the United States at the World Cross Country Championships in Amman, Jordan.

Tom Brooks will be covering a third terrain as he heads to Northern California to compete in the Trinidad to Clam Beach 8 road race. Brooks will be looking to win his third title in Trinidad, having last won the event in 2006.
