Week three of misQUOTE Me is hot off the press! And I've got a good one for ya! In the most exciting race I"ve ever seen in my life, Oregon"s 800m stars had plenty to celebrate after shocking fans at the Olympic Trials with an amazing 1-2-3 finish.
Is ANYONE interested in Comming to Argentina for A MOUNTAIN race of 3 days??

Hello Everyone,

Each February in the mountain areas of Argentina they have a 3 day race of approximately 18 miles a day over some beautiful terrain. We camp the two nights and the race organization brings all our equippement to each sight. It's a bit pricy at around U$400 per person, but it's a lot of fun and can be highly competitive.

The race is run in PAIRS so I am basically looking for a partner. 2 Years ago my partner and I won the "40 year old's" category and it was great.

I am looking for someone 36 years or more that can run around a 33 minute 10k. That is about my level, but in this race you will probably NOT get your speed up to that as the terrain can get complicated.

Last year we went up the side of a volcano and some of the days it took us 5 hours of running/hiking/climbing. We even had to get in canoes and paddle about 100 meters....but its fun!

You need a LOT of mountain training and have a pretty flexible ability to race as you never know what's around each corner!

Anyone interested please respond to this announcement.

Thanks!!

Oddly shaped tracks?

Does anyone know if it is okay CIF standards to host a meet at a 200 meter Triangular track? At our school we have run in to a problem. We have a dirt track that has been untended to for a long time and it's causing a lot of problems with our athletes. It has pot holes everywhere and is just more hard packed than anything. We're just sick of it. So since our school board is filled with a bunch of cheapskates I was wondering if a smaller all weather track in the shape of a triangle would be better. 1. Because it's cheaper so the school might be more willing. 2. It has turns that aren't as sharp as the 200 meter oval track. and 3. It would be fun to have a track as rare as that. Maybe even have it green colored...

If you guys have any idea on whether it is okay to have a track like that or not please tell me!

Animal encounters contest

Real runners are out in all weather conditions at all hours of the day. Just like real animals. So it’s no surprise that runners often encounter wildlife when they’re doing their thing.

Have you had your own animal encounter on a run? If so, we want to hear about it. Did you stop long enough to snap a photo or shoot some video? Even better.

We’ll give away $250 worth of gear or a 1 year PRO membership (= 50% off) to the most-viewed/top-rated photo, video or story.

Go to www.saverun.org to share your animal adventure. Photo or video can be posted in our new “Animal Encounters” albums.

Entries are due by June 15 and voting will continue through June 30.

http://runpreservation.ning.com/profiles/b...imal-encounters

I was driving over to the RunnerSpace office at 4:00 am and decided that a breakfast burrito would be quite nice while uploading a video, since the damn internet doesn't work well enough at my apartment. ANYWAY I pull into Muchas Gracias on Franklin and see the bright OPEN sign glowing, yet no other lights are on and the place is in fact closed. They claim to be open 24 hours a day, but I guess not. Is this how other 24 hour businesses operate? They claim to be open, but shut down at the ungodly hours when no one is likely to seek their business? I really wanted a breakfast burrito!

There's no point in trying to hide the fact that people love the steeplechase for the falls. And specifically the water pit falls. The magnetism that the water pit possesses over fans is similar to the force that makes drivers that slow down to rubberneck at a freeway wreck. But the water pit takes it one step further by removing the guesswork from finding the wreck, and then replays it for you seven more times. Of all the water pit falls, this sequence has to be one of the most unique. The shots came from the 2008 Mid-East Regional Championships in Arkansas and were taken by Michael Woods.
A school’s mascot is supposed to be personal connection between a team and its fans, intermingling with the crowd and entertaining with exaggerated arm movements and three-stooges-style tomfoolery. But I think it’s important to remember that under that oversized Styrofoam bill, there’s a real person—and he’s looking at you. That can be a creepy thought, and when the mascot enforces that thought with creepy antics, it can create a creepy reality. For example, every time I shot an Oregon basketball games for the student newspaper, the Duck would single me out and twist my nipples. That borders on creepy. It helped that I knew the person behind the bill, but nonetheless, creepy. This kid looks a little creeped out as the Duck gives him a last minute pep talk before the start of the 100m dash at last summer’s All-comer Meet. What’re they thinking?

Previously: misQUOTEme #8

Most people watch track and field to see fast people run fast times. The sight of someone performing feats of strength that they cannot, while enduring excruciating pain, is both exciting and amusing for the spectator. But while the race itself may be primary source of entertainment in track and field, many forget about an important secondary source—the awkward athlete/fan conversation. Here's a good example, which was captured by Kirbe Lee at last weekend's Penn Relays.

Previously: misQUOTEme #12
