GS Pre-Run

Coach Jay or anyone in the know,

I do some sort of General Strength after almost every run of the week, but occassionally do my core or weights before a run due to travel/time constraints. I know the benefits of post-run strength work probably out-weigh the transverse, but I was wondering if there were any positive hormonal/training benefits of doing your GS before a run every now and then? Physically, I find my runs always feel good after being in the gym for a half-hour or so doing GS and I would like to blame that on increased levels of HGH and testerone rather than just being extra warmed-up when I start a run. Thanks for any input!

Strength Training

This is usually a hot topic of discussion amongst runners and coaches. Some believe strength training and lifting weights is a vital part of improving and helping stay injury free, while others view such activities as wasted energy when one could be running. Do you currently include strength training in your routine?

RunnerSpacers,

I apologize for the very long delay in the Nike Spikes series that I started at the beginning of the summer. It was a crazy summer, but I'm starting up the long over due return of these videos that preview Nike's spike line-up that will soon be available for retail and on the feet of runners across the country. Jonny "Wildhorse" Truax, James "Tonger" Tong, and Tom "Red Rocket" Redding give you insight on how these spikes are made and the inspiration behind them in a very entertaining fashion. Enjoy!

In case you missed the first two videos:

Part 1 - Cubicle Tour

Part 2 - The Process

6 New Training/Coaching Videos - Terrence Mahon

This video is the first in a series of videos that captured a presentation coach Terrence Mahon gave at the Super Clinic during the Olympic Trials. Mahon coached four athletes to the Olympics this year (Ryan Hall, Jen Rhines, Deena Kastor, and Ian Dobson). I understand these videos give more insight to coaches training their athletes, but I personally walked away with a lot of knowledge watching these and really a different perspective on coaching. I think these are extremely valuable for anyone involved with running to watch. Check out the first video:

Get to Know Your Athletes Better and Train Them More Effectively: How to Train Distance Runners Based on their Individual Personalities

This is just the introduction, but the rest of the 5 video links are in the description under the video.

Training Site

Runnerspacers....is that correct? Members of RunnerSpace....ok, maybe that works. I hope everyone is enjoying navigating one of our newest features....this forum section. It is one of many exciting features coming to RunnerSpace. Another aspect we added this summer is our Training site: http://www.runnerspace.com/training

Keeping in line with the mission statement of RunnerSpace, we developed a place where members can learn about aspects of running and training. This is also a place for members to share knowledge and ask questions about their own running. It is still getting going, but your participation is what we want. The greatest thing about this sport is that there are many ways to make it to the starting line fit and ready to roll. We all have unique experiences and philosophies on how to get everything we can from our running. There are clinics out there where coaches and runners pay money to learn. This is an opportunity to expand your knowledge without ever leaving your couch. Want that upper edge on your competition or just want to learn how to avoid some of those nagging injuries? Check out the RunnerSpace Training site!

More videos and features coming soon.
