What a great meet tonight by Mike Boza and company. Huge thanks to the official starter Sickles Coach Dave Rittenour and Mike Hill from Elitetiming.net for unfettered access to the start and finish line. An open course with 1K marks and great competition...what else can you ask for !! We've started to upload some photos and interviews and will add race footage over the weekend.

After a stellar showing at this past Friday's FACA XC "Mudfest", Holy Trinity's Boys claim the top 6 spots and place all 7 in the top 8 of this week's Space Coast Weekly Honor Roll. (Check out the Forum Link) Cocoa Beach Junior Shelby Davidson claims the top spot for the Girls and is off to a great year winning both her opening meets in dominating fashion.

This is why the FACA XC Meet was about as much fun as you could have as a spectator on a cross-country course.

Shouldn't all courses be THIS way?

Miami-Herald -
-- FABIAN LYON
Given the collection of cross-country stars that will descend on Fort Lauderdale's Mills Pond Park for the Tri-County Championships on Friday night, it's only fitting the meet will take place under the bright lights.
Three top-ranked teams in Florida, including four-time state champion Belen Jesuit (3A) and star runner Elliot Clemente, Columbus (4A), led by Armando Del Valle and five-time state champion Lourdes Academy (4A), with its top tandem Lourdes Brea and Bianca Barrios, will vie for county bragging rights.
Besides featuring some of the biggest names in Florida, the appeal for runners and what is expected to be a capacity crowd is a rare opportunity for all classes to race together.
The girls' race begins at 6, with boys' at 6:30.
Del Valle is coming off a victory at the Great American Cross Country Festival when he ran a season-best 15:00, which ranks No. 3 in Florida.
His biggest challenge should come from Clemente, the latest in a long line of Belen standouts, who ran a personal-best 15:09.6 (No. 5) to place fourth in the flrunners.com Invitational Race of Champions last Saturday.
Del Valle's teammate Mark Gulesian (15:27) is also in contention for a top-five finish.

Craig Davis Sun-Sentinel
High school cross country: Tri-County Championships to showcase many of South Florida's best
October 6th, 2010 It is being billed as the largest high school sports event in Broward County history.
With more than 1,000 runners on 39 teams, the inaugural Tri-County Championship will be a colossal cross country showdown Friday at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale.
Conceived to determine the best of Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, all 2009 state qualifiers were invited.
"We're extremely happy with the turnout," said Glenn Lee, meet director and coach of Cardinal Gibbons. "We've got a lot of strong teams and strong individuals coming. It should be very exciting."
The varsity boys race, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will feature a finish under the lights on the soccer field. The girls varsity race starts at 6, following the girls junior varsity at 4:45 and the boys JV at 5:30. The races will be run on the same 3.1-mile course used for the BCAA Championships and other major meets the past few years.
Prominent among the teams: The Miami Columbus boys are ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 4A, Our Lady of Lourdes is No. 1 in 4A girls, and Belen Jesuit has the No. 1 boys 3A team.
St. Thomas Aquinas is coming off a victory in the Girls Invitational at the Flrunners.com Invitational. With no seniors among their top five, the young Raiders have come together quicker than expected. Freshman Christina Kalis has emerged as the team leader in the past two meets, with Alex Payne and Giselle Suarez close behind. St. Thomas also has the top-ranked boys team in Broward.
Broward and Miami-Dade will be best represented in the Tri-County Championship. Many of Palm Beach County's teams are competing Friday in the Martin County Under the Lights Race in Stuart.
But Pope John Paul II is entered, led by two-time Class 2A state champion Stephanie Schappert, who holds the girls course record of 17:54 at Mills Pond Park. She will be challenged by Laurel Brennan, sophomore at North Broward Prep, who ran 18:38 at Flrunners.com.
All of the girls on this week's Broward Honor Roll will be competing, including West Broward's Izzy Amaro (19:19), American Heritage's super sixth grader Daesha Rogers (19:22), Pine Crest's Ella Wurth (19:32) and Nicole Golden (20:01), Sydney Schneider (19:52) of University School, Macy Huskey (19:53) of Cardinal Gibbons and the St. Thomas trio of Kalis (19:55), Payne (19:59) and Suarez (20:01).
The favorite in the boys race is Columbus' Armando del Valle, ranked third in the state. Unfortunately, there will be no rematch with John I. Leonard's Ryan Pickering, who beat him in the recent Spanish River Invitational. Pickering will be away attending a family event, and his Leonard teammates are running in the Stuart meet.
Del Valle bounced back to win the Great American Cross Country Festival at Cary, N.C. in 15:00 last weekend.
The top two Broward boys, North Broward Prep's Nick Palermo and Tim Hendricks, will be looking to improve on personal-best performances in the Race of Champions at the Flrunners.com Invitational. Palermo had a breakthrough effort, placing eighth in 15:44, shattering his PR by 23 seconds.
"He was very focused; he had the competition and knew it was a good opportunity to step up," said Patty Palermo, his mother and coach of North Broward Prep. "He committed to himself that he was going to make his training a priority [this summer] and put in more miles than he had in past, and now he's starting to do some speed work. Hopefully he'll peak at right time."
Hendricks, the 2009 Sun Sentinel Runner of the Year, stayed with his teammate until the last half mile and finished in 15:50, also a PR.
The other boys on the current Broward Honor Roll will also be running Friday: Santiago Zerda (15:52) of Coral Glades, Conor Kelly (16:30), Tyler Amato (17:02) and Jacob Amato (17:03) of Archbishop McCarthy, Tom McCarthy (16:30) and Nicholas Bauer (17:03) of St. Thomas, Ellis Coe (16:44) of Douglas and Jordan Gershman (16:49) of Pine Crest.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The beautiful Apalachee Regional Park was the setting for the Florida State cross country program's lone home meet of the season Friday night.
The 2010 FSU Invitational brought some talented college programs to Tallahassee for a women's 5k and men's 8k race.
In the men's 8k, redshirt senior Justin Harbor led the Seminoles with a fourth-place finish thanks to a time of 25:01.
Redshirt junior Nicholas Maedel also had a terrific evening as he set a new personal record with a time of 25:12. Maedel's time broke his previous best of 25:13 and earned him a 10th-place finish. Closely trailing Maedel were his teammates as six FSU runners finished in the next seven spots.
"I think it was a very good night and we did what we set out to do," FSU men's coach Bob Braman said. "Several of our B-team guys set new season highs or personal records. And the top guys got some good training."
Like the men's squad, women's coach Karen Harvey wanted to utilize the home meet to get some extra training in while also running all of her top girls.
In the women's event, two Seminoles finished in the top 10. senior Andrea Palen's time of 17:59 earned her a ninth-place finish while teammate Emily Ness came in 10th with a 18:05 mark
Next up for the Noles is a trip to Charlotte, NC for Royal Cross Challenge on Oct. 15.
FSU then heads to Terra Haute, Ind. for Pre-Nationals the week after.
