Haha. Now I get it. Perhaps she was a bit off, or perhaps she and her coach planned keeping her in the pack, saving her for the future. IDK.

Oops, should clarify. Their standard look is French, then their 2-7 about 40-50 seconds later.

Back of the 6.5-second pack, being "off". Lol.

1-7 split was 6.5 seconds. 20th place was the best performance at the MN state meet by a 7th since.....well, ever, basically. Interestingly, the 1995 Duluth East team, headed by senior Kara Goucher(then Wheeler) had their 7th come in 29th overall, which was the second "deepest" team in MN XC history, both genders.
French was off and ended up in the back of that 1-7 pack. It will be interesting to see how a team with structure like theirs fares in Portland.
IMHO, Wayzata ranked too low. I'm hoping they can show their true mettle in December at Nationals. I think they are being hurt in rankings because Minnesota still runs 4K for girls. But they are solid 1-7. For example, in Minnesota 6AA sectionals ran on a windy Oct 23 on challenging Gale Woods Farm course, with temp at 36F the top 5 Wayzata Girls ran 18:08 team average once I converted the 4K times to 5K times. They had a 1 TO 5 spread of 0:33.5 and a 2 TO 5 spread of 6.5 seconds. And, get this, a 2-7 spread of 12.9 seconds. That's some solid numbers by any account. Results:
