"Paul Spangler is the new Distance Coach at the University of Florida"

He's a Florida Native.

He's won a Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 2 Mile State Track title.

He's an Alumni of the Southeastern Conference and coached for the Gator's In-State foe.

Today, the University of Florida announced that Coach Paul Spangler will take over as the Gator Distance Coach alongside Head Coach Mike Holloway.

Coach Spangler is a 1993 graduate of Hernando High in Brooksville, Florida.  He was a walk-on at the University of Alabama who eventually went on to earn an athletic scholarship and numerous honors for the Crimson Tide graduating in 1998 with a BS in Education and was a 1996 and 1997 NCAA qualifier in cross country and made the All-Southeastern Conference team in his senior year.

Coach Spangler most recently spent the last 10 years at the Virginia Military Institute where he was the Head Cross Country coach for the men's and women's programs and the Assistant Track and Field Coach for the Keydets in Lexington, Virginia.

In 2009, Spangler was honored as the Big South Women's XC Coach of the Year.

During Spangler's tenure in Lexington, his teams broke 21 distance records in Cross-Country and Track and had five athletes earn Big South Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards.

Spangler's 2011 4X800-meter relay squad combined for a 7:24.70 clocking to not only win the IC4A title, but claim the top time in the world during the indoor season.

Prior to his most recent position at the Virginia Military Institute, Coach Spangler was an Assistant Distance Coach at Florida State University from 1998-2001.
