2011 FHSAA 3A Regional Previews
by C. Robert Brown

There can be no doubt that this year in Florida Cross-Country 3A is the toughest classification, top to bottom.
With 5 of the top 10 teams and 8 of the top 15 regardless of classification, on the Boys side including the #1 & #2 as well as 4 of the top 10 teams / 6 of the top 15 all classifications on the Girls including the #1 & #2, 3A is as stacked as I can remember any classification being in recent history.
As a matter of fact the #1 3A boys team is ranked #11 in the country and the #1 3A girls is ranked #28.
That being stated, the four 3A regional meets this week are going to be some of the most competitive in the State of Florida. Let’s take a look:
3A R1 Boys will see FL #2 Ft. Walton Beach. take on FL #6 Pensacola B. T. Washington, FL #7 Chiles and FL # 12 Bartram Trail for the crown and leave either Leon, Creekside or Niceville home with sub 17:00 team averages.
The 3A R1 Girls pit FL #2 Chiles against FL #5 Creekside & FL #6 Ft. Walton Beach for supremacy with Niceville, Nease, Choctawhatchee and Bartram Trail battling it out for the remaining 3 spots.

Resurgent Charlotte should hold on to the final transfer spot against Lakewood Ranch.
The 3A R3 Girls features FL #1 / US #28 Estero against rivals FL #11 Lakewood Ranch (again) with Ft. Myers and Gulf Coast battling for the 3rd spot and Ida Baker, Northeast (S.P.), Cypress Lake and Osceola (Seminole) fighting for the last 2 spots.
