Professional: O'Lionaird (pronounced - Leonard), joined the Oregon Track Club in the spring of 2012. Joining the club, his sights were set on the 1,500m in London. Ciaran tuned up prior to the Games with a personal best in the mile in Dublin, 3:57.02. At the London Olympics, Ciaran competed in his 1,500m qualifying round, but was unable to move on due to an achilles injury.
Prior to joining OTC, Ciaran set his personal best in the metric mile, and grabbed the Olympic 'A' standard with his 3:34.46 performance on August 2, 2011 in Oordegem, Belgium. Following this performance, O'Lionaird competed in the 1,500m final for Ireland at the 2011 IAAF Championships in Daegu, South Korea. O'Lionaird rewrote his personal bests in the mile, 3,000 and 5,000 earlier that summer as well with times of 3:57.99, 7:50.71, and 13:33.64.
College: O'Lionaird finished his college career at Florida State. His final track season in 2011 was his most successful. Showing his range, Ciaran ran a 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational early in the season with a PR of 28:32.30. O'Lionaird won two ACC titles in the 1,500 and the 5,000. Both wins were in PR times, 3:40.69 and 13:52.11 respectively. He went on to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines. In the fall of 2010, Ciaran helped the Seminoles capture their highest team finish at the NCAA South Region with a second place.
O'Lionaird began his college career in Ann Arbor at Michigan.
High School: Ciaran ran for the Leevale Athletic Club in his hometown of Cork, Ireland. He ran an impressive prep time of 3:50.41 in the 1,500m in 2005. That same year he placed 10th at the IAAF World Junior Championships in the 1,500.
