Symmonds Wins Prefontaine Classic
Eugene, Oregon – Oregon Track Club Elite’s Nick
Symmonds won his second Prefontaine Classic 800 meter title (his first win was
in 2007). Symmonds outran a spectacular
field that included the last two Olympic 800 meter Champions, winning in a time
of 1:45.86, which is a season’s best and the fastest time by an American this
year.
OTC Elite had a strong presence in several other events at
the Pre Classic. In the women’s 800
meters Jemma Simpson ran a strong race to finish in third in 2:01.10. Simpson notably defeated the 2008 Olympic
Champion at 800 meters with her performance.
Other OTC Elite results include Will Leer’s twelfth place
finish in the Bowerman Mile, which was also a personal best time of
3:56.63. In the men’s steeplechase Ben
Bruce led the way for the OTC Elite finishing fifth in 8:33.11. Bruce was followed by teammate Billy Nelson
in seventh, 8:35.90, and Tom Brooks, who was tenth in 8:43.25.
