New England Weight Throw Championships (RI) Results

Published by
Martin Bingisser   on Mar 3 2012, 04:30 PM

In one of the most exciting competitions of the year last weekend, Joe Velez (Classical, Providence, RI) and Reuben Horrace (Bishop Hendricken, Warwick, RI) battled it out for the New England weight throw championship. Velez led most of the competition before Horrace unleashed a new personal best of 74'11.25" in the final round. With one attempt left, Velez was able to improve and beat Horrace by the smallest possible margin...just .25 inches. Later in the day Velez also threw a nation-leading mark of 55'09.50" with the senior 35-pound weight.

The women's competition was just as close with Ann Dagrin (Classical, Providence, RI) beating her teammate Marthaline Cooper (Classical, Providence, RI) but just more than two inches.
