College: University of Northern Iowa
Event: 800 – 1:44.83

An eight-time All-American and the NCAA Indoor Champion at 800 meters in 2008, Tyler Mulder joined OTC Elite on the first day of 2010 after completing his studies at Northern Iowa.
Professional: Tyler opened his 2012 season with two outdoor 1,500 meter races at Hayward Field. In his second race at that distance during the Oregon Relays, Mulder set his personal best to 3:42.53. Following these two races up in distance, Tyler dropped down to the his campaign in the 800. In three consecutive races, Tyler improved his season best time in the 800 from opening at 1:46.44 to under the Olympic 'A' standard in 1:45.55 at the Prefontaine Classic. At the US Olympic Trials, Mulder won both his prelim and semifinal races. Entering the final of the 800 meters, Tyler held the fastest qualifying time. In that final he finished 5th, just outside making the Olympic Team. Following the Trials in Eugene, Mulder traveled to Europe for three more 800s. At the Sport Solidarieta Meet in Lignano, Italy, Tyler broke his personal best with a 1:44.75.
Mulder opened up 2011 with a personal-best showing at the Melbourne Track Classic on March 3. Placing fourth behind 800 world record holder David Rudisha and OTC teammates Nick Symmonds and Lachlan Renshaw, Mulder dipped under 1:46 for the first time in his career – running a 1:45.73. That brought him tenuously close to the IAAF World Championships ‘A’ Standard of 1:45.40, so, on March 19 at Hayward Field, Mulder tried for the standard again. This time Mulder had to go it alone though, and missed the standard but won decisively in 1:46.86. Finally, at the Oxy High Performance meet in California, he hit the time he had been chasing, running 1:44.83 for second place. At the 2011 USA Championships he cut his time down each round running a 1:45.59 in the finals. Even with this stellar effort, he placed 4th to miss qualifying for Worlds by one spot. He ran several other races in Europe throughout the summer, tying his personal best of 1:44.83 in Barcelona. He was a member of the winning USA DecaNation team, placing second in his event. He ended the summer representing his country again in the Pan American Games, this time bringing home the gold.
In 2010, Mulder had a good amount of success indoors: taking third at the USA Indoor Championships in the 800 and running the 800-leg on OTC Elite’s Distance Medley Relay squad, which set a World Indoor Best time of 9:21.77. Mulder’s outdoor season started off well. He ran a then PB in the 1,000 meters (2:21.48) to win the Oregon Preview. Then he ran another PB to win the 800 meters in 1:46.44 at the Mt. SAC Relays. In May and June, Mulder took third in the 800 at the Oxy High Performance meet and fourth at the USA Outdoor Championships. Then, at the Prefontaine Classic on July 3, Mulder set his PB in the 1,000 with a mark of 2:17.91. From there, he traveled to compete internationally, and set his then PB of 1:46.32 in Tangier on July 18th with a sixth-place showing.
Mulder made it to the 800-meter final at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.
College: At Northern Iowa, Mulder won the NCAA Indoor 800-meter title as a junior in 2008 and went on to finish third at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He earned All-America honors in both indoor and outdoor track: in the 800, 4x400 Relay and sprint medley relay.
High School: While at Unity Christian High School in Orange City, Iowa, Mulder set a State Class 2A record in the 800. He also held a school record in the 400 and won conference championships in the 400, 800, 1,600 and 4x400 Relay. Mulder also played soccer and ran cross country in high school and was a conference champion in the latter.
Personal: Born February 15, 1987. Parents are Terry and Linda Mulder and Sheila Robinson. Mulder earned his Exercise Science degree at UNI. His mother Sheila is a full Omaha Native American. He enjoys hanging out with his golden retriever Miles and playing video games. His gamertag is “OTC Elite.”
