A college star at Oregon and Lane Community College, Washington native McNamara joined OTC Elite in the summer of 2010.
Professional: Jordan began his 2012 season at the Payton Jordan Invitational by stepping up in distance to the 5,000 meters. He ran an 11-second personal best in 13:34.64. Next, McNamara traveled south to Los Angeles for the Oxy High Performance Meet where he competed in the 1,500 meters. In his season debut at the distance he missed the Olympic 'A' standard by just over one second with a personal best 3:36.48. Jordan continued to challenge the Olympic 'A' of 3:35.50 in the following two consecutive 1,500 meter races. In the Harry Jerome meet in Canada, Jordan bested his PR to 3:36.03. At a final tune-up of the U.S. Olympic Trials, Jordan narrowly missed the Olympic standard by .13 seconds in 3:35.63. At the Trials in Eugene, McNamara won his preliminary heat and qualified through his semifinal for the final of the 1,500. In that final, he set out from the gun to grab the Olympic standard. He finished 7th, just under two seconds from making the Olympic Team. McNamara finished his season with a string of successful road races. Most notably a second-place showing at the Falmouth Road Mile and a tenth in the very competitive 5th Avenue Mile, 3:56.07 and 3:56.50 respectively.
In his first competitive season with OTC Elite, McNamara set one personal best after another. First, in Dublin, Ireland, he clocked his mile PB of 3:56.83. Then, only five days later in Liege, Belgium, McNamara recorded a 7:50.48 to set his 3,000-meter PB and finish second. Just six days after that came another PB, this one in the 1,500 at Lignano, Italy, where he also placed second. His flurry of personal records in 2011 ended during a road race in England, where he won the Falmouth Mile in 3:54.89.
College: While at Oregon, McNamara capped off a solid collegiate career by earning All-America honors in the 5,000 meters at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In cross country, he recorded an eighth-place showing for the Ducks at the Pac-10 Championships. … In outdoor track in 2009, McNamara excelled at 1,500 meters, making it to the final round at both NCAA and USATF Championships. He also broke the 4-minute barrier in the mile that summer, clocking a 3:59.87. … In 2008, while still at LCC, McNamara qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 1,500 meters. His college-best in that event was set in 2007 and was a 3:41.13. That spring, as a sophomore, McNamara won conference titles in the 1,500, the 5,000 and the 10,000. Also in the fall of 2007, McNamara won the NWAACC cross country title.
High School: While a senior Auburn-Riverside High in Auburn, Washington, McNamara placed third in the 1,600 meters (4:16.6) and the 3,200 meters (9:19) at the 2005 Washington State Championships. His prep PBs were 4:15.17 in the 1,600 and 9:05.32 in the 3,200.
