Three years after Conor McCullough (Princeton) broke the US national high school record with the 25-pound weight, he finally made his debut with the senior 35-pound weight. And he did it in impressive fashion by posting a new NCAA leading mark. McCullough focused on World Junior Championships his freshman year and did not throw the weight at all. The decision paid off as he took home gold. Last season he took a leave of absence from school to help out with his family, but he returned to school this year and showed that he can still throw the weight after such a long time off. His best of 23.19 meters also places him on the top-10 all-time collegiate rankings.

A few other male throwers had big improvements over the weekend. Kevin Mays (Central Michigan) added 1.33 meters to his best and now ranks fifth in the NCAA with 21.92m. Alec Faldermeyer (UCLA) mvoed up to sixth with his 81cm improvement to 21.62m.

On the women's side, Jeneva McCall (Southern Illinois) yet again led the nation with another impressive throw of 22.74m. Kelly Closse (Texas Tech) showed that last week's big best was not a fluke with another improvement to 21.62m. Amanda Bingson (UNLV), on the other hand, rebounded from a poor performance last week to throw more than a meter over her PR. Her new best of 21.42m now ranks her fourth in the NCAA. Taylor Smith (Wisconsin) also improved over the weekend.

In the pro ranks, defending US champion Amber Cambell improved her season's best to 23.88m, but Brittany Riley again had the best mark of the weekend with another 24m+ throw. A.G. Kruger turned in the best men's performance.
