Alec Faldermeyer of UCLA won the U.S. title in the Junior Men's hammer throw on Friday. He did so in convincing fashion, leading the competition from start to finish. His best attempt, a sixth round throw of 73.52m (241-2) with the international 6-kilogram hammer (13.2-pounds), also ranks him third all-time in the U.S. Only Conor McCullough and Walter Henning rank ahead of him, and both won World Junior titles. Second place went to high school senior Greg Skipper (Oregon City, OR). Skipper came within 10-feet of his high school personal best even though the hammer was more than a pound heavier. He sat in third most of the competition, until improving in the fifth round and passing Eastern Washington University freshman Jordan Arakawa. Skipper will be attending the University of Oregon next year.
