On Friday, the Evergreen Athletic Fund launched a new website and blog for hammer throwers Kibwé Johnson and Crystal Smith.  Johnson won the silver medal at the 2007 Pan American Games and currently holds the collegiate weight throw record.  Smith is the former Canadian record holder.  Both are currently training towards the 2012 Olympic Games and will marry in October.  After graduating from Division II Ashland University, the pair moved to the northwest in September 2008 to train under former Olympic champion Anatoli Bondarchuk.  The website, www.turntheright.com, will feature updates, photos, video, and news about the both Johnson and Smith.

Johnson and Smith’s website is now the third athlete website developed by the Evergreen Athletic Fund.  The non-profit organization also designed websites for elite discus thrower Will Conwell and hammer thrower Martin Bingisser.  Since the throwing events often get little publicity in the track and field world, the Evergreen Athletic Fund has used these websites to raise the profile of elite throwers in the northwest.  In addition, the donation supported organization also runs several hammer throw news websites, organizes youth throwing clinics, and helps fund local throwers.
