A Sunny Day in Boulder City

What a perfect day for the 4Oth Annual Las Vegas Invitational.  Larry Burgess himself was on hand talking cross country along the sidelines.  It was good to see him again.  Ava started out the day racing the 2.5 mile freshman course in 20:51. The varsity team had a daunting challenge; life without Kelsi and Nicole.  Things went wrong from the get go.  First, Rue used up all the batteries on my camera before the start of the first race.  Sorry, no pictures! There were uniform issues and boys on the starting line, but when the gun went off everybody proved to be up to the challenge.  Katie ran away from the competition at the mile mark with the fastest time of the day. Marissa with a blistering pace in the second half of the race finished an impressive 24th.  Ashley and Rue were close behind in 36th and 38th.  Theresa rounded out the scoring finishing in 46th place.  Kristi and Sam stepped up to the varsity race and posted good times finishing in 116th and 125th.

Who Improved from 2009?

Even without Kelsi and Nicole, the team improved last year's 8th place finish by finishing 6th in 2010.  In '09 we scored 229 points and this year we trimmed that to 145.  On the individual side, Rue dropped her time from 24:14 in '09 to 23:11 this year.

Keep up the good work!
