Ennis Beats Lolo to Break UK Hurdle Record

Ennis breaks UK 60m hurdles record

Britons smashes eight-second barrier at Aviva International in Glasgow

JESSICA ENNIS smashed the UK indoor record for 60m hurdles as British athletes made an encouraging start to 2010 in the first domestic televised track meeting of the year.

Ennis clocked 7.95 to beat world indoor champion, Lolo Jones of the United States, by two hundredths of a second. The UK record had previously been held by Sarah Claxton, with 7.56. 

Ennis, whose PB before was 8.12, said: "To start off this way, so positively, has given me a lot of confidence. I love coming to these events, because they are a great standard, but I never expect to win these events. So to win, with a British record too, is amazing."

Ennis earned a bonus of $5000 for breaking the record, although ironically was only a mere guest in the match itself.
