Oshier holds onto mile title at Arcadia

ARCADIA - Last year, Trabuco Hills' Jantzen Oshier surprised himself by winning the invitational mile at one of the nation's most prestigious regular meets.

This year, the nation's top miler surprised no one in producing yet another impressive victory on a national stage.

Oshier, a senior, successfully defended his mile title with a lifetime best of 4:06.81 at the 44th annual Arcadia Invitational on Saturday night at Arcadia High.

"There was really no plan, I just went out there and ran," Oshier said. "I took the lead to get away from the pack and realized that I felt strong and could push the pace."

The Cal-bound senior took the lead early in the race and was in control throughout, running negative lap splits in each lap. He survived a late bell-lap surge from Torrey Pines senior Matt Carpowich (4:07.15), who finished second.
