Hayward Field
University of Oregon
Oregon Track Club is hosting a middle-school mile again in the University of Oregon’s annual Twilight Meet at Hayward Field. Race time will be late afternoon or early evening (to be determined). The races have been scheduled in past years as early as 3pm and as late as 8pm. Girls first, then boys.
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders are invited to compete. Suggested entry standards: 6:30 for 1500m for girls, 5:40 for 1500m for boys. Girls in all three grades will run together in one race. All the boys will run together in one race.
There is no entry fee.
Entry deadline is Sunday, May 1, at 5:00pm. Fields will be limited to 40 boys and 40 girls. The boys’ race often fills up before the deadline.
If you’d like to run, email Tom Heinonen at: [email protected] .
REQUIRED ENTRY INFORMATION:
--name of runner, gender, grade in school, school's name, city and state, contact info (email address of athlete or coach or parent)
Be sure you get email confirmation of your entry from Tom Heinonen. Your entry is not confirmed until you receive his email response.
In 2010 the girls’ race was won in 5:02. Second place was 5:30. The boys’ race was won in 4:51. Meet records are 5:02.50 for girls (Paige Rice, West Sylvan M.S., Portland, 2010) and 4:37.96 for boys (Kevin Kavanagh, Cathedral School, Portland, 2009).
Kids’ Half-Lapper: During the meet, there will be an all-comer’s 200m run for kids under age 12, the “Kids’ Half-Lapper.” There is no pre-entry. Children will be called to the Starting Block area (near gate #8) before the race. Keep in mind, though, that everyone must have a ticket or wristband to enter the stadium.
