Kentwood girls to compete in Nike Track Nationals

Posted by Sandy Ringer

The Kentwood girls track team is one of 12 in the nation invited to compete at the Nike Track Nationals on July 2 and Hayward Field in Eugene.

That's the night before the annual Prefontaine Classic.

The top 12 girls teams and 12 boys teams are invited in what is being billed as the national championships for high-school track.

The Kentwood girls are ranked No. 1 in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming) and No. 12 in the nation by RunnerSpace.com. You can find more information on their website.

Kentwood coach Stephen Roche said he plans to take seven or possibly eight Kentwood girls. The seven who have committed are Holly DeHart, Dana Wareham, Megan McNally, Aiesha Goodlow, Beth Parrish, Carly Horn and Alyx Toeiana.

DeHart, a junior, won the 200 at the 4A state meet last month and placed third in the 100. She was part of the third-place 800 relay team tat also included Goodow, Proctor-Guyton and Wareham.

Toeiana, a sophomore, placed fourth at state in the discus and fifth in the shot put.

The Nike meet will be scored decathalon style, with points given for marks, not places.
